Richard The Roundhead Tam by Kate Davies - PDF Downloadable Pattern
On a brisk autumnal day in 2013, six UK-based designers congregated at Gawthorpe to take inspiration from the textiles. With support from Arts Council England, each designer created a knit or crochet pattern inspired by an item in the Collection. The patterns are available for sale to raise funds to care for and preserve this important historic collection for future generations to enjoy and continue to deliver inspiring education programmes.
Richard The Roundhead Tam by Kate Davies This design was inspired by the “Richard the Roundhead” coverlet that Rachel Kay Shuttleworth embroidered over several decades at Gawthorpe. Rachel’s coverlet combines her own Arts and Crafts aesthetic with her ancestors’ Tudor heritage, and I have tried to speak to this in my design with structured motifs that echo those of her embroidery. The colour scheme is the same teal-on-white that Rachel chose, with a pop of Lancastrian red for the brim lining and button.
